Breather Interview Questions
& Process

I applied online via AngelList. It took the Breather team about two weeks to respond to my initial application. Once they responded they were very courteous and professional. After exchanging logistical emails, my phone screen was scheduled for the following week. The phone screen lasted about 30 minutes. A phone interview lasting 60 minutes that covered much of the same material, but much more in-depth, took place a few days later. Never heard back after that -- radio silence. It would have been nice to get a communication one way or the other.

So, I went through a 5-step interview process that took about a month. It started with a recruiter call within 48 hours of me applying, which was just a quick check to see if I was a good fit. Then came a take-home assignment where I had to check out a Breather space myself, come up with a cleaning plan, and get ready to answer some scenario questions for a manual. I thought the assignment was pretty cool, but also a bit sketchy, felt like they were getting free work. After that, I had a video call, but it got rescheduled a few times because the interviewer was swamped, which made me wonder if they were still interested. But it did happen, and I moved on. Next up was a technical screen with someone from New York who was a current operations coordinator there, and she hit me with technical and situational questions. The last step was an in-person interview at their office with three people, including the first person I spoke to. They all asked me the same questions over and over, which was kind of repetitive since I'd already answered them in earlier calls. I kind of wished they'd done a panel interview instead for the final stage. I heard back last week that they went with someone else. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience, and the interviewers were mostly nice.

I found the job online and they reached out pretty fast to schedule a chat. We had this first Google Hangout interview, which was chill and professional. Then they wanted me to come in the next day for another interview. This one was pretty standard, talking about what they expect, what the job needs, how I could grow, and going over my resume and why I'm interested. I felt good after leaving, and they got back to me with an offer really quickly.

I applied to Breather.com a week before applying to other places because I was really interested in their product and the tech stack. It took them 2 weeks to get back to me and 3 weeks until the first phone interview. By that time, I already had offers from 2 other companies, so I couldn't wait and had to withdraw my application with Breather. It's a shame because I think they have a great product, a cool tech stack, and a great culture. The person I spoke with on the phone was also very nice and passionate. If you're looking for new jobs and Breather interests you, be sure to apply there at least 2 weeks before you apply anywhere else.
