First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Breads Bakery.
Cashier
The interview process was quite straightforward. I was asked about my experience working with teams, my background in food service, and my enthusiasm for food. Following the interview, the recruiter was friendly and gave me a quick tour of the bakery.
- Could you provide an overview of your resume?
- Can you share your experience in team environments?
- Tell me about your food service background.
Front of House Team Member
I had a Zoom call with the hiring manager. She was a really great conversationalist and super easy-going. We talked about the basics: my background, what I enjoy doing when I'm not working, my previous experience, and my future aspirations.
- What makes you interested in working for this company?
Sales Associate
They went through my resume, and then asked me some questions about my past experiences and general background. They also asked about my customer service experience and what I see myself doing in the long run with this job. The general manager called me to set up a trial shift. It was a pretty straightforward interview process.
- How do you plan on selling a food item you've never tried before?
Executive Assistant
My application process was quite unique. I reached out to the CEO directly, who 'liked' some of my LinkedIn posts instead of replying, which was a bit strange but nice. After following up a few days later, I guess he forwarded my info to the HR manager, who then sent me a rejection email. It was polite and professional, but I felt like they missed an opportunity. It wasn't until now, while reflecting on interviews, that I saw the company's Glassdoor rating is 2.6, which is shocking! I probably wouldn't have applied if I'd known. Although many reviews are for front-of-house roles, they share a common theme: management. It makes me think of the saying, “People don't leave bad jobs. They leave bad bosses. More often than not, it's not because they are underpaid, rather it's because they feel undervalued and unappreciated." While I understand running a food business is tough given my own event planning experience, I'd be mortified if my company had such low employee satisfaction. I'd be working to fix it immediately with honest practices. It's interesting that customer reviews on Yelp and Google are so high (and I agree, the product is great). But what are you sacrificing internally for those good customer reviews? Can't there be a better balance? I believe there is, and I hope the new EA helps you find it, as I would have. Despite the low rating, one review stood out: "Owner has no foresight or planning, so everything is a last minute emergency. Management not willing to change how they do things at all. Obvious preference for employees who have been there since the beginning and Israelis." Yikes. Anyway, good luck.
