I was really excited to interview with Branch. I got a call to set up an interview within 30 minutes of applying. The first step was a quick 10-minute call to confirm details and schedule the first interview. My first Zoom interview went really well and focused on goals and company fit. We scheduled the second Zoom interview for the following week. The second interview, which I also felt went well, was a bit confusing because it felt like a repeat of the first. Before the second interview, I got an email saying there would be a part focused on job-related skills and diagnosing 'pain points,' which I thought would be a role-play to check my knowledge. However, that part never happened. I was really looking forward to that specific part because I thought it would be the best way to show my value. Overall, besides getting an email late Friday saying I wasn't selected, that was the only disappointing part of the process.

So the interview process had 4 stages. First was a recruiter screening, about 30 mins, just talking about my background and if I was interested in the job. Then there was a take-home assignment that involved querying and data insights. After that, I had an interview with the hiring manager. This one was technical, covering SQL, optimizing queries, joins, and dealing with duplicates. They didn't ask much about my actual experience, kind of disengaging there. The last interview was behavioral and about culture fit. I noticed they don't use Agile, so maybe the workflow isn't super structured. They also asked about dbt, which I don't have experience with, and I think that's why they chose someone else, someone more aligned.

I applied and got a super welcoming phone call and initial interview from their recruiter/HR. They moved me to the next interview the SAME day, which was super promising! That interview went well, and I had my third interview the following week. I thought I'd definitely earned a spot since I exceeded the qualifications and the interviews went so well! Didn't hear anything for a couple of weeks, then found out after reaching out to the hiring manager on LinkedIn that they hired someone else. Since I follow their LinkedIn page, I later learned that the hire had less experience than the job posting listed, so I was really bummed and a bit confused about how they chose them over me. But hey, what's meant to be, will be. It just seemed odd - one year of industry experience when 7 were required?

The interview started with a 30 minute Zoom call with the talent acquisition specialist. I heard back very quickly that they would like to move forward. The next step was a presentation/assignment that took 45 minutes. I emailed my thank you after and didn't hear back. Followed up and was told they would be reaching out with the next steps soon. I then received an automated rejection email that wasnt personalized at all. I felt a little lead on when I got the email saying they would reach out with the next steps soon, because it made it seem like I would be moving forward in the process, so it was a shock when I got the rejection.
