Relationship Manager
It was a 4-stage interview process: first a recruiter/HR phone chat, then a take-home excel exercise, followed by a phone interview with the team lead, and finally an in-person interview with 6 team members which included a problem-solving test. The in-person part had a tour with HR, then 30 mins with 2 team members, another 30 mins with 2 different team members, and ended with 30 mins with the department head. The timing was very strict and the questions weren't really structured, making it hard to go into detail and a lot of groups asked the same questions. Overall, it was a pretty average interview process.
- Can you describe a situation where a customer was dissatisfied and how you resolved it?
Relationship Manager
First, I had a 20-minute phone screen with a recruiter from the Account Management team. We talked about my background, the Relationship Manager job, and the company. Next, I got a take-home excel test that I had about a day and a half to finish. After they looked at my assignment, I was invited onsite. There, I did a Wonderlic test and another excel test. I also met with a current Relationship Manager in SF. The following day, I had a second onsite interview. I was told the Director of Account Management from Chicago would be in SF, so I met with her and another SF-based Relationship Manager. During that onsite, I first met with the other Relationship Manager for a casual chat about the day-to-day of the role. Then, I met with the Director, where we did a quick payment exercise and discussed my experience further. They said they'd be in touch the next week. A few days after that, I had a Skype interview with a Relationship Manager in Chicago. They mentioned a final update would come by the end of the following week. I didn't get the offer because they chose someone with payments experience.
- What is your motivation for working at Braintree?
- Can you share an example of a time you exceeded expectations in your work?
Applications Manager
So after I applied online, I got an email that day saying they got my resume and someone would be in touch. The next day, I got an email to set up a phone interview to talk about my experience and if I was interested in the company. After that, they set up my first round of interviews. First, I had to do a Logic Test where I had 5 minutes to answer 50 questions. Then, I met with two HR people who were really nice and open. We talked about common interview stuff like my strengths, weaknesses, past experience, and why I wanted to work there. After that, I met with two people from the Applications Team. They talked about the company culture and work environment and how I'd fit in. They also wanted to know how I manage my daily tasks, my past customer interactions (email, phone, face-to-face), and what I do for fun. The interviewers were really open about their own perspectives on the company. The day after my first round, they let me know they were interested in a second round. For the second round, I met with three of the more senior employees. They asked me about my current job, wanting examples of achievements, challenges, and why I was looking for a new role. They also wanted to know what I understood about their company and industry since it was so different from my current one. The team made me feel comfortable. At the end, I got to ask about the company's future and management's goals. I got the job offer a few days after the second round. The whole process was smoother than with my last employer. The HR team was great at following up and scheduling around me. I really liked how fast they responded after each stage, unlike other companies that make you wait weeks and cause stress.
- Can you share an instance of a work failure and explain how you handled it and what you learned?
