It was a three step process. First, we had a technical interview. After that, there was a competency based interview. The final interview was with the head of the department who was hiring for the role.

I applied on LinkedIn. The first interview was a technical one with the chief engineer fleet and an HR person from Singapore. We talked a lot about technical operations and issues on LNG carriers. The second interview was with the same HR person and another lady, focusing on safety and human leadership. These two ladies seemed like outsiders; you couldn't really talk about your onboard experiences because they were office people. The job offer was quite low compared to the market, specifically, the salary was like bulk carriers, not LNG. The hiring process is very strict with lots of documents. They tend to put you on standby for a month to do background checks, as if marine engineer documents, endorsements, courses, and sea service history are something you can forge easily.

Got confirmation for the interview on 19/02/2024, with the first interview happening on 20/03/2024, about a month after applying. Was told I'd get feedback in a week, but had to chase it on 16/04/2024, almost another month later, because my application was still active. Got an automated email saying they're not moving forward. Very inefficient for a company like BP. Candidates shouldn't have to chase feedback for so long. Very disappointed with BP's recruitment process.
