First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Boys Town.
Family Teacher
It's a pretty involved process. You'll do a psych evaluation and a bunch of interviews with the leaders of the Family Home program. It's basically an all-day thing. They're mainly trying to see if you've got the grit, emotional stability, and patience for working with challenging kids.
- What's your approach when a child you're working with refuses to do their chores?
Project Manager
The interview process was quite straightforward. It involved two interviews conducted back-to-back. Initially, I was asked questions mainly concerning the job and my responsibilities, along with inquiries about my previous work history and my motivation for seeking this position. Following that, there was a second interview with some of my potential colleagues, during which they also shared details about the kind of projects they are currently working on.
- What motivates your interest in this particular job opportunity?
- Could you describe your previous experience and how it relates to this role?
- What do you understand to be the core duties and responsibilities associated with this position?
Case Manager
A recruiter reached out after I applied and set up a phone interview. She was really abrupt and seemed bothered by me, not getting or believing what I said. My stutter and anxiety make interviewing tough, and her tone made it worse. She asked about my salary expectations, and when I told her, she said the role actually pays differently. Weird, why not just say that if it was already set? She didn't let me ask any questions and just said she'd pass my resume and interview answers to the hiring manager at the location. They'd contact me if they wanted to move forward. Then she hung up on me while I was mid-sentence. Super disappointed with this, wouldn't want to work for a company that uses someone like that as the first contact.
- Can you describe your experience interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds within an office setting?
- What is your background working with young people facing mental health and behavioral challenges?
Crisis Counselor
The interview process is pretty simple, with two rounds of interviews that included questions and role-playing scenarios. They do provide training for all employees, but they want to make sure each candidate is qualified for this high-intensity role. All communications, whether emails or calls, were handled promptly, and I felt well-informed throughout the process! I strongly suggest checking out the videos, website, and other resources about Boys Town to learn about what they offer. It's a really amazing organization, and everyone has been incredibly friendly and welcoming during this experience!
