First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bowdoin College.
Store Employee
It was a pretty easy interview, they asked some real questions about why I wanted to work in the store and they actually listened to my answers and thought about them. I felt like they heard me and I could say what I wanted from the job and the place.
- What makes you want to be a part of the Bowdoin store team?
Associate Director, Student Services
First, there was a phone screen where they provided more information about the position. Then, an interview panel, which consisted of 3 people, asked questions that were emailed ahead of time. The interviewee didn't have a chance to ask questions during this part. It wasn't really a conversation; the panel just said hello and went straight into the questions. They didn't give any verbal feedback or ask follow-up questions to my answers, which was a bit strange. I'm usually not a nervous interviewer, but this felt more like an academic defense than an interview.
- Around ten interview questions were sent beforehand.
Director
The interview process was extensive, spanning several months. It began with a thorough phone screening by the primary hiring manager, followed by an on-site interview. The on-site portion included group meetings with different departments, separate meetings with smaller interested groups, one-on-one meetings with senior staff, and a final meeting with the hiring committee.
- Were you asked about specific knowledge or experiences pertaining to current or past college events?
Administrative
The whole interview experience took about 2 months, which was quite a long time. First, I had several phone interviews. After that, I went for an in-person interview where I met with different staff members. Everyone I met was really nice, professional, and friendly.
- How has your past work experience equipped you for this role?
