So I was cold emailed by one of their recruiters and had an intro call which was really friendly. Then I got passed over to Karat for a technical screen. The tech screen was kinda strange. The interviewer wasn't even from Boulevard and was a bit hard to understand. It was an hour long and had rapid fire System Design Questions, a Leetcode Medium, and a Leetcode Hard, all crammed into one hour. I didn't get much info about the System Design part beforehand and the interviewer just seemed to be logging answers. I got a rejection saying I did the coding fine but apparently wasn't good at designing systems, which is wild based on a weird ten minute rapid fire session with a disengaged proxy. From what I've seen, they seem super nitpicky, which is why they seem to mass recruit and just send everyone to Karat. Really disrespectful and feels like a bad culture indicator.

Bobby and Tim were great to work with during the interview phase. Bobby was super honest and kept me updated. It started with a phone screen, then a meeting with the engineering director, followed by a panel of technical and non-technical interviews, and finally an interview with the CEO. The whole process was quick and I had a good experience. The technical part wasn't too hard, just fair questions on basic web trivia, SQL, and algorithms. They have a nice PowerPoint to guide the process, and I liked how organized they were compared to other companies.

So, first I talked to a technical recruiter, then there was a technical challenge. After that, I interviewed with the hiring manager. The last part was a panel with four interviews covering company values, leadership/collaboration, working with PMs and designers, and system design. It was a pretty thorough process, touching on both hard and soft skills.
