Grants Manager
A model of what transparent, equitable, and inclusive hiring should look like. Bottom Line is leading the way. While I ultimately withdrew my candidacy after receiving another offer I could not pass up, it was a tough decision. The thoughtfulness of Bottom Line’s process made it easy to imagine how rewarding it must be to be part of the team.

Manager
The interview process kicked off with a 30-minute phone screen with the hiring manager. Following that, there was a 1-hour interview with two team members, then a thought exercise. The process concluded with a 1-hour final interview involving the hiring manager and another team member, all conducted via Zoom. It seemed pretty standard. After successfully navigating the final round, I was asked for references – specifically five references, which I found a bit unusual. I didn't get any feedback for two weeks and figured I'd been ghosted, like many others. Eventually, I received a generic, automated rejection email. Given it's a non-profit, I found their process and practices questionable, and honestly, it felt like a waste of over 3.5 hours of my time and energy. Hopefully, they'll read these reviews and show more respect for applicants' time in the future.
- Can you share your understanding of DEI and how you integrate it into your day-to-day responsibilities?
College Success Advisor
I went through three interviews for this position. First, I had a phone screen with a manager. Then, there was a video interview with a manager and a current Success Advisor. The final interview was a video call with the Program Director and another manager. After the last interview, they said they would check my references and I should hear back in a couple of weeks. I never heard anything back. The job start date has passed, so I guess I didn't get the offer or even a rejection. I'm disappointed and feel disrespected. Honestly, I'm kind of glad I didn't get an offer because this lack of communication and professionalism seems like a reflection of their organization. I wouldn't want to work for a place that ghosts candidates after they've spent 3 hours interviewing and doing a 45-minute thought experiment before the final interview.
- How is your previous experience relevant to this role?
- What would you do if a student experienced racism?
- How do you foster a diverse, inclusive, and safe environment?
College Access Advisor
It started with a preliminary phone interview where they asked basic questions about my experience and interest in the role. Then, I had to complete a performance task involving editing an essay and writing a paragraph about myself. The final stage was an in-person interview with a manager and someone currently in the position. During the interview, one of the interviewers started texting mid-conversation, which made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The interviewers seemed disengaged, barely reacting to my responses, offering little input, and avoiding eye contact due to extensive note-taking. It felt like they were just reading questions from a script. This experience was quite jarring, and I'm relieved I didn't proceed further after witnessing the workplace dynamics.
- How would you approach discussing a college's recent racist incident and the topics of race/racism with a student if that college was on their list?
