First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bossa Nova Robotics.
Software Engineer
I had an HR chat, then a coding interview, and finally a panel interview. They were all medium difficulty. The company's vision is something I liked. I enjoyed being onsite and meeting the team.
- Tell me about a coding recursion question.
- How would you find the shortest path to a destination?
Motion Planning Engineer
It was a coding round and a technical interview. The coding round was on an online platform and included algorithms and C++ questions. The technical interview mainly involved reviewing my resume and asking some basic questions about motion planning strategies, octomaps, and considering robot footprints during planning.
- How would you approach designing a global planner for a robot operating with an incomplete map of its environment?
Computer Scientist
I applied and got an email pretty fast to set up a first phone chat. It was supposed to cover background stuff and some basic coding. But, after that call, that was it, no more contact. It was pretty obvious on the call I wasn't really the right fit for what they needed, which is fine, that's what screens are for. But the person interviewing me was just super rude. They kept cutting me off when I was trying to explain things, I didn't get a chance to ask them anything, and then they couldn't even be bothered to send a quick email saying they weren't moving forward with my application.
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
Robotics Scientist
HR scheduled a screen interview four days after I applied online. I thought the "Robotics Scientist" title would focus on algorithm design and handling complex robotics systems, but it turned out to be a pure programming interview. They were very detailed about programming questions and techniques, and not interested in my ideas or discussions. It felt like they needed a programming technician instead of a scientist.
- Have you used version control systems before?
- What is GRE?
- What's the size of an unsigned char?
