Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Book of the Month.
Senior Associate
It started with a standard screening, then I met with the hiring manager and leadership, followed by a project. These were definitely hard interviews designed to see if I could handle the fast-paced environment. The project was in-depth and related to the job I was applying for. It was a good experience overall, though definitely tiring.
- Can you describe the most challenging thing you've accomplished?
Associate
I saw red flags early on in the process. When people show you who they are believe them. They have the typical behavioral interviews and then have a more skills based interview. I am mostly writing this review as a warning. Don’t interview here, it’s a waste of time. It kind of seems like they interview people to get ideas. Also this company used to be known as Bookspan. If you want the real story on BOTM read their Bookspan reviews on Glassdoor. It is very eye opening.
- Tell me about your experience.
- What do you know about our product?
Associate
Maybe because it’s such a small company, they reached out to me in a couple days after my application. Every step proceeded very quickly and was actually the quickest process I’ve ever had from start to offer. Everyone was very personable, started with a phone screen, then video interview, paid project, online assessment, and final rounds in the office. The interviews should be very dependent on the role but mine was the most technical with the project and everything else was more culture fit questions and conversations.
- How crucial is work-life balance for you on a scale?
