Guide
The interview was on Zoom, and it was straightforward and informative. They asked about my experience and explained the store model. They prefer people with customer service backgrounds. It was a good interview, with a friendly atmosphere and good company culture.
- How would you manage a situation with an unhappy customer?
Assistant Merchant
First a easy 30 minute call with the recruiter about my background, then the managers reached out to me to set up a first-round virtual interview 30 minutes each. Easy going conversation.
- What do you look for in a merchant?
- What brands are competitors and what brands can we strive for?
- What brands do you follow?
Manager
A recruiter from Express reached out on LinkedIn about a role at Bonobos. I had a 30-minute screening, then immediately went through three virtual interviews, each about 45-60 minutes, with different District Managers. One interview was super early at 7am, and the other two meant I had to take time off work. One DM even texted me personally to push things along, making it feel urgent. After the last interview, it went silent for four business days before I got a generic rejection email from 'Express Talent.' Honestly, that felt disrespectful given how many interviews they made me do. While I get not getting the offer, it would've been nice if at least one person, especially the one texting me, sent a quick personal note or thanked me for my time. I think the reason I didn't get the offer was because I asked about company growth. The final interviewer basically said they just restructured and there wouldn't be any growth opportunities for at least a year. When I followed up asking about manager development or retail support groups, the answer was pretty much a 'no.' This seemed to annoy the interviewer and changed the vibe before she just ended the call abruptly without mentioning next steps or a timeline.
- Considering the retail business model, which KPI holds the most significance?
Software Engineer
The process is pretty standard. First, there's a call with the recruiter. Then, an initial pre-screen first round. The last part is a final onsite interview. The onsite includes System Design, practical questions, and data structure/algorithms questions. The whole process felt really good, the recruiter kept me engaged and actually cared about my obligations and asks. They were really accommodating to my hectic full-time life. I wanted to point out that everyone I met had a great big smile, and clearly were intelligent people. They were honest, creative, and people who clearly care about what they do day to day. I would highly suggest interviewing with this company!
- How would you approach a System Design problem?
- Can you solve Leetcode problems of medium/hard difficulty?
- Build something practical for us and explain your thought process.
