I applied online for the HR coordinator job. I had a phone interview shortly after. Then they said I was too qualified for that role and asked me to apply for the HR Business Partner position, which was my dream job. But I still wanted to be considered for the HR coordinator role too. I interviewed in person for the HRBP role, and we talked for about an hour. It was mostly 'Tell me about a time' questions. It wasn't super hard but it was a lot of back-to-back questions, not very conversational. They started to sound repetitive. I followed up to show I was still interested. After no response, I waited a bit and followed up again, mentioning I had another offer but really wanted the HRBP role. They said the position was on hold and they didn't know about next steps. I followed up again a couple weeks later and was told they hired an internal candidate. I never got a rejection email and they never checked in with me. It's weird when you apply for a role you're interested in, get told you're a better fit for another role that then gets put on hold. Then you find out they were going to hire internally anyway and maybe just brought me in to check a box. They should have communicated better. If the HRBP role was on hold or they knew they were hiring internally, I should have been considered for the HR coordinator role I initially applied for, especially since they still said I was a better fit for the HRBP role. I could have grown into the HRBP role from the coordinator position. Now both roles are filled.

The interview started with a presentation to the panel. Afterwards, each interviewer met with me privately. The process was very unprofessional though. Most of the panel were on their phones during my presentation. Two interviewers didn't even show up for the one-on-one meetings. One interviewer was really condescending and acted like I was worthless and wouldn't fit in. They might have been racist and only wanted to hire Hispanics. It was ridiculous.

It was mostly behavioral questions. They asked a lot about my project work and classes, my interests and hobbies. We also talked about my short-term and long-term goals. The plant director and engineering manager were super chill and made it feel like a casual chat.

The interview was basically going over my resume. I was told I'd be contacted in a week about the next steps, but never heard back. I reached out and was told they needed another week. After that passed and I still didn't hear back, I sent a final email, only to be told they'd been busy and weren't moving forward. It was very unprofessional to string me along for 4 weeks.
