Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bolt.
Marketing Manager
The interview process is pretty straightforward. First, you'll have a call with HR to verify some things. After that, there's a home task that's kinda challenging but interesting to do, although they don't really bring it up in the next stages. Then, you'll have about 2-3 rounds of interviews with the hiring manager, where they'll mostly focus on your past experience, specifically looking at numbers and the impact you made.
- Can you talk about the impact you made in your last role?
Marketing Manager
The process started with a recruiter call. After that, I was given a take-home task that took me about 4 days to complete. It was quite thorough and long. I waited over two months for a response about the next steps, reaching out multiple times. The recruiter gave feedback twice saying the manager didn't have time to check the task. Two months later, I was invited to an interview with the hiring manager. The interview questions were general and focused on experience, not the task I did. A few days later, I was told I didn't have enough experience. The recruiter later explained it was because Bolt is a big company with many stakeholders, but I've had worse experiences with larger companies. Others have also had bad experiences interviewing for Bolt. The recruiter sent an email explaining what happened over the past two months, but it was too late for excuses.
- What aspects of your profession do you find enjoyable, and which do you dislike?
Marketing Manager
The interview process felt unprofessional, exploitative, and disrespectful over several months. I interviewed with 5 people and completed 4 time-consuming projects, totaling about a week's work, taking days off to do them. I received positive feedback throughout, which built my confidence. The final interview was with the CEO, Markus Villig. Instead of asking about me or my interest in Bolt, he intensely questioned my career path and challenged my opinions and expertise for an hour, seemingly looking for flaws. His questions about my home market, which Bolt aims to enter, suggested I was being used for free work and information. His demeanor was disdainful and aggressive, raising concerns about potential prejudice. Ultimately, I received a generic rejection email and an insincere platitude-filled email from the hiring manager, with no explanation despite my request. A year later, the position remains unfilled and was removed from their listings. It appears Bolt uses job candidates for free work and ideas through potentially fake job postings, especially from those passionate about the business. I strongly advise job seekers to avoid Bolt due to this unethical and dysfunctional approach, and to consider their competitors.
- Tell me about why you chose this career path, and let me explain why you are wrong.
