The interview at Boats Group was pretty thorough. I first chatted informally with the CTO about the job's challenges, like building relationships and improving processes. Then HR talked to me about the company's great culture, how they keep employees and support them. After that, I met with senior leaders – the CEO, CFO, and VP of Marketing. We talked about improving infrastructure, making communication better, and keeping things running smoothly. All the talks were interesting and made it clear what they were looking for. All in all, it was a good, professional process that showed they really care about finding someone who fits culturally and technically.

I applied online and got a decline message the next day, but also an interview invite. The HR person eventually found the message and told me to ignore it. The interview was over the phone. She started by asking what I knew about the company, then read the job ad description. She asked some situational questions in a rushed, monotone way. She also asked about my legal status to work in the US and my salary needs, and I was surprised to learn it was a low hourly rate plus commission role. I received another decline email two days later. My impression was that she was looking for younger candidates and just went through the motions. I'm still appalled by how I was treated.
