Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BMO Financial Group.
Investment Banking Analyst
The first round was pretty easy and straightforward. The final round was heavy on PE questions, but still quite manageable. There were no Paper LBOs or merger math. Both the first and final rounds included some unusual behavioral scenarios.
- What are the advantages and disadvantages for a seller when choosing between a strategic acquisition and a sale to a PE firm?
Investment Banking Analyst
The interview process involved standard investment banking questions and a stock pitch. It was a single round. They asked about why I'm interested in this sector, behavioral questions like 'tell me about a time X', why this specific location, and why I should be hired. Standard technical questions from the guide were also included.
- Can you explain your interest in this particular location?
- Why are you interested in this sector?
- Describe a situation where you encountered X.
Investment Banking Associate
Went through 3 rounds of interviews over a long period. Scheduled a 4th interview for a week prior, but got a calendar notification saying the meeting was canceled 2 hours before. Never got an email explaining why. Followed up with the executive assistant and heard nothing back. Really indecent and unprofessional.
- Could you explain a Leveraged Buyout (LBO) to me?
