First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Blum.
Executive
It usually starts with a quick chat to see if you're a good fit. Then, you'll likely have a few deeper interviews where you'll talk about your past work, what you're good at, and how you tackle problems with the people who might be your boss or colleagues. Sometimes they'll throw in a technical test, a case study, or a hands-on assignment. The last part usually involves deciding if they want to hire you, checking your references, and then making an offer if everything checks out.
- What do you expect from working at this company?
Sales Representative
The hiring process took about 6 months to get started, but once it began, it moved pretty quickly. I met with some great people throughout the process. The main hiccup was discussing salary; they seemed hesitant to talk numbers, though they did mention that while the compensation isn't extremely high, there are plenty of other perks. They also noted that they are working on improving the compensation structure.
- What do you know about Blum, and why did you decide to apply for this role?
Creative Designer
They had two interviews lined up. The first one went fine, but the second one was a mess. The HR person had an emergency, and I never heard back. I waited on the Teams call for the recruiter for over 15 minutes. I had to call them to find out what happened. They apologized and then had a quick, disorganized meeting where I felt unheard. It was unprofessional, and I didn't get the job because I later found out the position was removed from their website, and they never contacted me.
- Can you tell me about your experience designing brochures?
Business Analyst
First, there was a phone screening where I talked to the recruiter about the job and set up an online interview. The online interview was really bad; they used scare tactics to make applicants nervous about the next steps. Then came a personality test that was created over 30 years ago, which surprised me that companies still use it. It felt super biased and had questions that were discriminatory based on class, industry, and job fields. There was no way to actually 'pass' it. I was glad I didn't hear back after that.
- Can you tell me about a project you finished before?
- Walk me through a past project you completed.
- Tell me about a project you’ve done in the past.
