A recruiter called and talked about my sales background and the job. Then I had another interview with two sales managers. They were pretty nice but seemed a bit unorganized and asked me stuff from my resume they hadn't looked at. I talked about my freelancing with digital agencies, but they didn't seem to like that connection. When I asked if they had questions for me, I asked if they'd read 'Never Split the Difference.' They got defensive and said sales skills are only learned in the real world. One manager said he had no prior experience, maybe it was ego. I didn't get the job.

It was a lengthy process that took about two months. First, a recruiter screened me, then the hiring manager interviewed me, and finally, I had a 3-person panel interview. The interviews were conversational, with questions tailored to each stage. The panel interview was the most detailed, focusing on the actual work. Most of the questions were about my ideas and plans for developing specific programs, but it seemed like they weren't looking for any particular answers. I discussed my previous successful initiatives in similar programs. After the panel, my contact went silent, even after I followed up. A few weeks later, I emailed the hiring manager to see if the position was filled. Within hours, I got an automated rejection email that was oddly worded, giving two reasons for rejection: they chose another candidate and they were still interviewing. This was probably due to two merge fields accidentally included. A few weeks after that, I got another email from recruiting saying they had chosen another candidate. The job is still up for grabs, then taken down, then reposted.

It started with a quick 15-minute phone call. After I passed that, they set up a 30-minute in-person interview. Before going in, I had to do an online psychological test and a typing test. The actual in-person interview was in a conference room, pretty relaxed. They asked a lot of tough technical questions, and even though I wasn't sure about half of them, I still got the job.

The interview process is how employers check if candidates are qualified and a good fit. It usually starts with a screening, then phone or video calls, in-person or virtual interviews, some technical tests, questions about how you act, and checking references.
