Outside Sales Representative
I didn't really want this job and used it for practice, but I still took it seriously. The office vibe was immediately off-putting – quiet and a bit snobby. They asked for a completed application that I never got, which I'm sure didn't help, though it wasn't my fault. Most of the interview was okay, but some questions felt condescending and basic. They even said sales training is just memorizing scripts, which is a terrible approach if you've actually worked in sales. I asked about company size, relocation, and expansion, and they got really excited about opening new locations in Akron and Columbus, which was interesting but not the scale of expansion I imagined. On the plus side, the interviewer was really friendly. A couple of questions about my work history or answers felt pointless, but overall the interview itself was fine. The application was way too long and mostly unnecessary. The overall atmosphere didn't feel like a high-morale place, but the interviewer and another guy I spoke to were friendly and outgoing. This place probably suits people with a different personality than me; I'm used to fast-paced, high-performance environments with a relaxed, informal culture. If you're different, you might fit in well.
- Tell me about your typical sales process and how you'd initiate contact with a potential client.
- Describe your general sales process and how you would start a conversation with a prospect.
Sales
Got reached out to by a recruiter on social media. Did a phone interview with the recruiter. Then went in for an initial interview with the recruiter. After that, I came in a week later for interviews with two sales managers. Then the following week, I went in for a job shadowing if they liked me. It was a full day of job shadowing with two sales reps, and then I had to take an 8-page personality test at the end of the day. The whole test was handwritten and really annoying to take because the questions were so general. If you don't score high enough on this 'test', they won't even consider you for the job. If you get through all of that, you come in for a final interview and they'll offer you the job then.
- Salespeople are often good storytellers. Can you share a story with me?
Sales
The interview process isn't bad. The receptionist might seem moody when you arrive, but don't take it personally. The recruiter is nice and informative, though you might need to ask for details like salary and turnover. She's a good first impression of the company.
- Tell me about yourself.
- What are your salary expectations?
- What is the company turnover rate?
