First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska.
Communications Intern
I first applied on Workday, and then a recruiter reached out for a phone interview. After that, I had a video interview with the Communications Manager. Then, they had me come in for a writing assessment, and finally, a three-person interview. The recruiter was really nice, and we had a good talk. The writing assessment involved writing in AP style, which I haven't done before but I did my best with my existing writing experience.
- Can you share an instance where you had to convey difficult information to someone and describe your approach?
- Have you been involved in event planning before?
- What specifically attracted you to this role?
Community Health Worker
I went through 3 interviews with the hiring manager and supervisor. It was a long process but overall worth it! I interviewed with the same people for all three interviews, so you kind of build a rapport with them. Human resources offered me the job over the phone.
- Describe a challenging situation you faced and how you managed it.
Program Manager
I was randomly selected for an interview for a job I hadn't applied for. It was hard to get info about the role from HR beforehand, so I went in unsure of what to expect. The interview started with tech issues, and then four people showed up on video. They skipped introductions, and the job background wasn't covered until I asked later, which seemed to surprise them. We spent about 10 minutes discussing HR processes. This was with directors and seniors. At the end, when it was my turn to ask questions, I suggested we save that time and end the call. I wouldn't recommend BCBS.
- What makes you the best candidate for this position?
- Describe a challenging situation you encountered in program management and how you handled it.
Manager
So I had 2 rounds of interviews for this Manager role. The first was with the hiring manager, and the second was with some of the people I'd be working with. There was a gap of a few weeks between them, mostly because of scheduling issues like vacations. Right from the start, they made me feel really comfortable. The interviews were formal, and they asked a lot of scenario-based questions, but it felt more like a natural conversation. After each interview, I felt even better about the team and knew this was where I wanted to build my career.
- Can you describe a situation you encountered and how you managed it?
- Walk me through a project where you had to balance competing priorities.
- How would you approach resolving a disagreement within your team?
