Manager
Had three one-on-one phone calls. One was with my manager, another with the CEO, and the last one was with the President and Co-founder. They were all pretty chill, informal chats with really approachable people.
- Could you share some details about your background and experience?
Software Developer
Got an internal referral. First up was a phone interview with the CTO, then an onsite with the two tech leads and the CTO. The CTO presented a case study and wanted to hear my ideas. I was supposed to bring my laptop for coding an idea, but that part didn't happen because the tech leads focused on asking me about database design and SQL query best practices. I did get to do a little coding exercise with one of them.
- How would you implement the javascript array.prototype.map function?
- What are the best practices for database design?
- What are the best practices for writing SQL queries?
Educator Support Associate
I was contacted about a role on their site, but they mentioned they don't have openings for it right now. They do, however, interview people regularly to have candidates ready for when positions open up. The next step involved an assignment where I had to respond to sample support tickets as if I were assisting the user. The instructions were a bit unclear, and a support site they referenced for help required a customer login, which I didn't have. Despite that, the assignment itself was manageable, requiring about an hour of writing. The main issue was the lack of response after I submitted it. I put in a lot of effort, and I felt they could have at least sent a rejection email. I found out my application was closed by checking online. I found this to be very poor etiquette, especially for an educational company that should model respectful behavior.
- How would you handle responding to this support ticket?
Content Curator
I had a few conversations with different people at the company, not just my potential direct manager. Many of the questions felt like standard interview fare, such as 'What's your biggest strength?' and 'Describe a work mistake and how you corrected it.'
- What is the reason for your departure from your current role?
