It was a disappointing experience. The initial screening call felt scripted and not candid, and I didn't feel like the role was being sold to me. I was surprised to not receive clear information on pay range or equity compensation. The four panel interviews were scheduled within three weeks of my initial contact. Unfortunately, I never received feedback, despite being told I'd hear back in 7 to 10 days (it's now been a month). Even my follow-up email went unanswered. I believe how companies treat candidates during recruitment reflects their culture and how employees might be treated. If the initial 'courtship' is mediocre, it's hard to believe employees are treated with more interest.

The hiring process for this role wasn't specified in terms of duration, but it consisted of three stages total, including an initial screening. A Talent Coordinator reached out to set up a 30-minute Zoom screening with a Recruiter. Both the coordinator and recruiter were very friendly and thorough. Following that, I interviewed with the hiring manager, who is located in London. He was a great guy, no issues there. After speaking with the hiring manager, my Recruiter let me know he'd be handing me off to another recruiter because he was taking a week-long vacation. This was a first for me, not having the same recruiter throughout, but I understood. My next interview was with two team members: a Systems Analyst and an Engineer. This part was the most challenging experience. The Systems Analyst had a condescending attitude and kept asking me tough technical questions, all of which I answered correctly. Towards the end, he asked about my work gap. I found this question to be quite sensitive, especially given his tone and my personal well-being. This interview was scheduled for 45 minutes, but I didn't get enough time to ask my own questions due to the constant barrage of questions from the Systems Analyst. I emailed the recruiters about his behavior, but as expected, I didn't get a response. It seems like just another startup that talks about its values but doesn't actually live by them.

I applied for this role after working in the crypto industry for years and being a BlockFi customer. While I believe BlockFi is a great company, their recruiting team seems to lack understanding of the crypto space and the business itself. I had a phone screen with a recruiter, and there was a significant disconnect regarding the role and what typical operations professionals in this space do. I was given a vague reason for not moving forward. Despite the challenges with hyper-growth and potential internal misalignment in recruiting, I remain a BlockFi fan but think they need to improve their recruiting process.

Had 3 video calls with 4 employees total. It was quite pleasant, maybe because it was video, but more enjoyable than other voice-only interviews I've had recently. Interviewers from different teams seemed genuinely interested in learning about me. The questions were pretty open-ended and felt like a conversation. Mostly just standard 'tell me about a time when' questions. No coding challenges, just questions about attitude, how I like to work, and team dynamics.
