Support Engineer
David reached out to me because I was referred. He really took the time to understand my goals and interests, and he gave me a good look into Blend as a company during our first phone chat. What I really liked throughout this whole thing was how on top of things David and Alexus were about keeping me in the loop on what was next and answering all my questions. After the first call, I got a take-home assignment. It was about seeing if I could research info and handle scenario examples. In under a week, I was set up to chat with the team manager. He was really nice and gave me a super clear picture of the team's day-to-day. You could totally tell he cares about his employees' futures. His questions were spot-on for the job. By the next week, Alexus helped set up the panel interview with 5 people. This included folks from teams I'd work with, someone from the current or previous team, the manager, and the head of support. Everyone really made an effort to get to know me and gave direct answers about what to expect in the role. Two days later, I got an offer, which was awesome. The recruiter was really clear about the compensation and even matched my excitement. The whole thing took about 2 weeks and was super smooth.

- What steps would you take if Amazon's website was loading slowly?

The interview process was pretty smooth, starting with a take-home test. Then I spoke with the hiring manager, followed by a virtual panel with the team. I really enjoyed chatting with everyone. I got an offer, but that's when things took a weird turn. As you know, negotiating and asking questions about your role is normal. I just asked if they could increase the compensation, either salary or stock. The recruiter called back saying they thought the compensation was clear and they decided to go with another candidate. My fiancée, who's a recruiter, said she'd never heard of an offer being rescinded just for asking a question. Maybe it's a good thing though, you shouldn't be penalized for asking. The recruiter had mentioned the base salary wasn't in line with my target earlier, but never mentioned the stock options amount, which is usually discussed at the offer stage and is negotiable. If they can't increase compensation, the recruiter usually says 'this is our best offer, take it or leave it.' I'm not sure if the recruiter miscommunicated my email to the hiring manager, but they definitely mishandled the offer process, letting emotions take over a business decision. I hope no one else goes through this; it left a bad taste in my mouth.
- I demoed their platform and asked a couple questions about functionality. How do you add new users and check credit?

Applied online and was contacted by the internal recruiter for a phone screen within 2 days. It was a casual chat about me and why I'm interested in Blend. A few days later, they set up a phone screen with the support engineering manager. I learned more about the role and Blend. They asked a straightforward troubleshooting question. Then, I was invited for an on-site interview to meet 5 team members. Everyone was really friendly and approachable. I got an offer the day after my on-site.

- Can you share an instance where you made a process better, even though your manager didn't agree?
- Tell me a bit about yourself.
