It was a smooth process. The company was fast and reactive. I met a few people on the team to test my language level. There was no case study; it was more about team meetings and making sure I matched with company values and spirit.

The interview process was quick and they wanted to check my background and if I could speak other languages. The HR and Marketing teams got back to me quickly after I applied.

I got to the interview 15 minutes early and was asked to wait in an empty room. After about 45 minutes, someone came to ask me some questions. After 10 minutes, he asked me to wait for his manager. I waited another hour, and then the manager came to talk to me. About 10 minutes into the conversation, she basically repeated what I had already told the first person about my background and education. Then she left, and I was alone again. Thirty minutes later, the first person returned and asked me to complete a math test. I declined this request, as it felt inappropriate after waiting for nearly 3 hours.

Applied online and got an email the next day saying I passed the screening. First step was a business case study and an online test, had 3 days to complete. The case study was a 3/4 page of info and I made a PowerPoint. The online test was weird, math problems, no calculator, 30 mins, nothing to do with marketing. Passed that and got an email about 4-5 hours later for a phone interview, which was annoying due to time difference and I wasn't fully awake. It was basic, they didn't have my info, just asked about me. Second round was a Skype interview with a manager. We talked about my PowerPoint, he wasn't impressed, wanted more specific ideas for improving their market. I felt I needed more info and time to evaluate and suggest ideas. He explained the position, which sounded like the case study, which intrigued me. Passed and went to the third round. Interviewed with a co-founder via Skype, he also wanted more specific ideas for the PowerPoint. Both rounds felt like they wanted to brainstorm ideas they could use, like 'give us ideas and we'll give you a job'. In the third round, I finally spoke to someone from the NY office and found out the job details. They work only with freelance writers and influencers, 75% of the job is contacting them to share article links. They pay influencers a percentage of traffic generated. I was turned off by this, as it wasn't in the job posting. It's a platform for writers and anyone to submit stories, not a news business. A big issue was not knowing the job details until the third interview, and they always wanted to schedule interviews just a few hours after emailing, with no discussion about timing, just 'confirm if you can make it'.
