Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Blain’s Farm and Fleet.
Cashier
Applied for the job and got an interview scheduled pretty fast, like within a week. I went into the store and talked with a manager, then did a drug test with spit. Found out I got the job after my background check cleared.
- Are you available to work on weekends?
Cashier
I applied for a floor position, but they said it was filled even though I'd seen openings online and applied in person the next day. So, I ended up applying for the cashier job instead. The HR person hired me, and then the cashier supervisor spoke with me. They told me to take a drug test by Monday at 3:00 PM and that they'd call me in 2-3 days. I did that, but they never called. I called them multiple times, and they kept saying they hadn't received my drug test results. Eventually, I got a letter in the mail saying I wasn't hired because all positions were taken! I called them, pretty upset, and about 10 minutes later, corporate called me. They said there was an issue with my drug test because I'm on prescription medication, which I had disclosed from the beginning. We got that sorted out, and I finally got a call the day before orientation was supposed to start.
- Were there any questions asked, or was it just the standard questions you find online?
Store Associate
Your application stays active for at least three months, so you might get an interview call later. There are some basic interview questions, but how they're asked changes depending on who interviews you. Definitely don't bad-mouth former bosses. Since the jobs are hourly or salary, don't expect to get paid by commission or book time. There's also a basic personality test, so just pick your first answer and move on without overthinking it.
- When asked what I knew about cars, I was surprised because I was just looking for any opening.
- When asked if I was willing to learn more, I said yes.
- I was then asked if I would prefer a position in ladies wear or the tire desk.
