First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy.
Teacher
Weird interview, felt more like an acting audition than a teaching job interview. They repeatedly asked me to change my voice inflection. It was a Zoom interview where I had to act like the interview committee were students. That felt really unnatural and unfair.
- What value do you bring to our school?
English Teacher
After a quick phone call, I was asked to come in and teach a demo lesson. After that, they gave me feedback and had me teach it again to the group. Then I met with the interim head of school. He seemed a bit unprepared and unaware of parts of my lesson, as I had to point out that I had indeed completed a task he thought I missed, even though he wasn't there for it. They didn't give much guidance on how to get ready for the interview, even when I asked about the students' grade level and what they were currently working on. The feedback wasn't helpful, and the interim head of school was kind of rude, scoffing at my questions about professional development and saying outside training is pointless. It felt disorganized and unprofessional overall. The hiring manager was nice, though. I wouldn't take the job because of the negative interaction with someone representing school leadership.

Physics Teacher
It was a virtual interview, with a group including the school administrator, the head of the science dept, the head of the math dept, and two others I don't remember their positions
- Can you tell us about your classroom management style?
English Teacher
It was a smooth but long interview process. First, there was an initial interview, followed by a demo lesson. Then, a second interview with a group of people. It was basically a typical school interview, which tend to be on the longer side.
