& Process

First I talked to an HR consultant on the phone, then another marketing exec on zoom, then a marketing coordinator who was in a consultant role, also on zoom. It was pretty casual, more like chatting about where the organization is at, and what my job would be (which involved a lot of emotional babysitting).

The entire interview process spanned 8 weeks. It was quite thorough, involving meetings with numerous staff members across all organizational levels. HR was communicative about the process timeline. Despite the duration, things moved along well.

I went through all rounds of the process, including a case study presentation and the final step meeting with the founder. I was told they wanted to move forward and they needed to check references before they could issue a formal offer, which I supplied. Inexplicably, they never checked my references and said they weren't moving forward without any explanation even though I asked.

So the interview process for this role was pretty long and disorganized. I had a couple of phone interviews before an in-person one with three staff members. The funny thing is, at each phone interview stage, they didn't seem to know who I had spoken to before, or if I'd spoken to anyone else at all. The final interview was supposed to be with the CEO, but the location changed three times! And during the phone interviews and that in-person one with the three staff members, I got asked the exact same questions every single time. The three staff members just read off their questions while typing notes on their laptops the whole time, which made it hard to feel a connection. I initially applied back in June. My first interview was in September, second in October, and the final one in November. Then in January, they let me know the role was still open and they were still deciding. I never heard back after that final round.
