They asked me about my background, when I can work, and my hours. Then we went over computerized training, how important it is to be on time, and being accountable for handling cash correctly.

This was an open application/interview event at a hotel meeting room. The BJ's staff were quick to get people into interviews. It seemed like not too many people showed up; I got there 30 minutes after it started and only waited 10 minutes. It was weird because the Carmel, IN store is opening in 6-8 weeks, but only 2 jobs were posted online for the event, even though there were at least 18 positions listed on a placard. The interview had standard situational questions. I have a lot of retail experience, dressed smart casual, brought resume copies, and asked questions. I didn't get a second interview or an offer. People's outfits varied a lot, from looking like they just woke up to smart casual. I spoke with two applicants afterward; one was asked to stay for a second interview (which seemed like a job offer), and the other wasn't. The guy who got the offer was dressed really sloppily. Another strange thing was the interviewer wanted us to pick two job choices, even though only two jobs were posted online and most job attributes apply to most of their roles. One last thing, I came with resumes and a notepad. Two of my interviewers seemed intimidated when I offered a resume copy and asked if I was there to interview them. It was a good, but odd, experience. Hope this helps someone.

Behavioral Presentation

It took about 2 months for me to be called for an interview. I showed up early and had two interviews and took a drug test all in the same day. The person interviewing me asked me to sell them something. I was honest and told her I had no experience in sales but I would try. Needless to say, I did not do so well on the 'selling her something' question. She gave me a lecture about meeting quotas and things cashiers have to do besides doing transactions and if I were comfortable with it. I told her yes, I would be comfortable with sales if I would receive training, then I should be all set. But just be prepared for the 'sell me something' question just in case so you will not be stumped.
