Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BJ's Wholesale Club.
Assistant Manager
The interview process was quite smooth and pleasant. I don't have any complaints; they were very understanding and calm throughout. I think I might have taken the job if I had previous experience in this type of position, as I didn't realize it would require so much training.
- Have you worked in this role previously, or is this your initial experience in such a position?
Manager
The interview process can really differ based on the store's location. Some places have a really thorough and organized process, while others might have you meet with three different managers who end up asking you the exact same questions because they didn't talk to each other. It's a bit like the training they offer – some stores have great training, but in others, they just kind of 'throw you to the wolves' and expect you to figure it out.
- Tell me about a time you faced a challenging situation and what you could have done differently, or what you've learned to improve?
- Are there any situations where you feel you could have done better or improved yourself?
Manager
I arrived at the hiring center before the store opened. I was too late for the management position interview, so I ended up in member services. The interviews were with the store manager, the ops manager, the hr manager, and a brief chat with the membership manager.
- How would you handle a situation with an unhappy customer?
