First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Birkman International.
Sales
I took a personality test first. Then, the questions they asked were pretty easy and didn't seem to relate much to the actual job. The sales manager also seemed out of it, like they didn't really care about hiring good people.
- Can you complete an extensive personality test?
- Tell me about your sales background.
- Why do you want to work here?
PHP Programmer
The hiring process moved quickly after initial contact, concluding with a final decision. The people I interacted with were all pleasant. I was asked typical questions about Linux, PHP, and databases. During the interviews, I gathered that the company is significantly burdened by over a decade of technical debt and is still using PHP 4. It's also very much a non-remote workplace. The in-office interviews consisted of 5 rounds, beginning with team leads and concluding with the VP of Operations and then the CEO.
- How do you feel about working with code that lacks documentation and uses unclear names for variables and functions?
Content Developer
First there was a quick chat with the HR director, and then I was invited to the office to meet with the HR director and some folks from my potential team. I actually came back for a second interview because my supervisor was out of town during the first meeting.
- What were your thoughts on the pre-work assignment?
- Could you tell me why you're looking to leave your current job?
- Let's discuss your Birkman Questionnaire results.
