The interview process started with a one-hour technical coding phone interview. Then, there was a three-hour technical coding Skype interview with three engineers. The HR rep was unresponsive when I asked for updates, and there was a month-long gap between the first technical interview and the second. It took another month to hear back about the decision. The engineers seemed uninterested and unfriendly during the interviews. Given the many other tech companies available for interviews, Birchbox's lack of transparency and slow response time is not worth the effort.

I got a call and an email about two weeks after I gave my resume to a recruiter at a job fair. The interviewer started by asking me some general questions about my skills, experience, and what programming languages I liked. It felt pretty comfortable because he seemed nice. Then he asked me a basic programming question. To wrap things up, he asked if I had any questions for him and then we ended the call.

I sent in my application online and got a call back from the recruiter the very next day. Then, I had a one-hour phone chat with a Birchbox software engineer. They asked some questions about my past experiences and one technical question. The interviewer was great, really excited about Birchbox, and made me even more interested. A few days later, the recruiter contacted me again for two separate one-hour phone interviews with two new engineers. These were technical interviews where we used collabedit for programming questions. I also got to ask some questions about the Birchbox internship program at the end. After waiting about two weeks (due to Thanksgiving falling in between), the recruiter reached out for a quick phone call with the VP of engineering. This call included a bit of technical stuff and a brain teaser, but was mostly behavioral. I received the offer a few days after that. The entire process took about a month, including the Thanksgiving break, and it was really fast and well-organized. The software engineers at Birchbox were super enthusiastic and informative!
