HR Partner
The interview had to be rescheduled. The interviewer was pretty neutral and asked basic questions about my experience, mainly sticking to the job description. It wasn't very personal, and there wasn't much room for jokes or small talk, they were straight to the point. It was a quick process, and I got a response soon after. I realized pretty quickly that it wasn't a good fit for either of us.
- Can you describe your basic experience?
- How does your experience align with the job description?
Graphic Designer
After a short initial phone call, I was contacted a month later for a second phone call with the hiring manager. He seemed unengaged and just read questions from a list. He hadn't even reviewed my portfolio, which was available on my resume and website. He then told me all applicants had to do a design test, which involved creating an original design and then making five templates from it (brochure, case study, social post, email, webpage). The design task was difficult because he gave no specific direction, only vague terms like 'clean' and 'creative', and the provided brand files were unhelpful. I don't work for free hoping for a chance, and I don't do guesswork, which he admitted had led to candidates doing 'too much' or 'too little'. I withdrew my application the next morning. He later viewed my LinkedIn profile, which was strange.
- What salary are you seeking?

They reached out to me for an interview twice last year. The first time, they just ghosted me. The second time, I interviewed with the manager. She was pretty nice. I'm not sure why I didn't get the job, but the role has been posted a fourth time since October 2022, meaning for the last six months they've either been unable to find their ideal candidate or people haven't been working out in the position. So, it feels a bit questionable. But I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Oh well!
- Were there general questions?
- Were there minimal questions during the phone screen?
- Were there about an hour of manager interview questions?
Manufacturing Systems Manager
I had an initial video chat with the hiring manager. After that, they invited me to come in person to meet with the heads of Finance, Quality, Operations, and IT. We had some great discussions, and I thought it was a good match. They mentioned I'd hear back within a week, but nothing ever came. Total silence!
- Regarding culture change management, what is your approach?
- In terms of organizing projects, what methods would you use?
