I had a phone call with HR first, then spoke with the hiring manager. After that, there was a panel interview with three people, and finally, I met with the department's Chief. The whole thing took about a month. The HR person was really helpful, and the interviews themselves were pretty relaxed and informal.

Got this job through a referral and had a bunch of calls. Since I lived out of state, I paid my own way to go to their DC headquarters for a meeting. I met with three people and had good talks. After that, nothing. I emailed them a bunch of times (appropriately, of course) and when they didn't answer for a few weeks, I called. No answer, and no call back. It was super disrespectful and ghosting is so rude, even mean, especially since I spent my own (then small) amount of money to travel for the interview. It takes like zero seconds to send a nice rejection email and you have to actively decide to keep ignoring someone. If this is how things are there, I'd stay far away. Super rude and unprofessional.

So I was contacted by the hiring manager for a 1:1 in-person interview, though the person was late. Then I had to meet a group of VPs for back-to-back 1:1s to see how I'd work with them. After that, I interviewed with the team I'd be working with daily. Finally, after those first two rounds, I had a nearly hour-long phone interview with another VP. The interviews themselves were okay and spread out over two months. I heard nothing for weeks, so I followed up with the hiring manager, but got no response. I followed up again a week later. Still nothing. I reached out to the VP I spoke with on the phone... crickets. Basically, after three interviews and two in-person visits, I never got any kind of response about whether they hired someone else, kept the position open, etc. It felt really unprofessional and rude to make me take time off my full-time job twice for interviews and then ghost me, especially when I followed up multiple times. I definitely think less of the organization and the people after this.

I went through 8 interviews one after the other, each lasting about 20-30 minutes. One interviewer took me out for a fast-food lunch. Afterward, I sent thank you notes to everyone, but I never heard back. It was quite unprofessional, but I guess I dodged a bullet.
