First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Big Switch Networks.
Technical Writer
I had several interviews with the company leaders. The development director, the VP of engineering, the QA director, and one of the product managers all interviewed me. It was a good experience overall; I got the feeling they understood the technology and that my contribution would be measured by how well I could learn the tech, not just my personality.
- Can you explain the functionality of a learning switch?
Software Engineer
I had a phone interview that lasted about an hour. We talked about my past projects, and then the interviewer described the company. After that, there was a coding question where I was asked to implement a queue using an array in C, even though I mentioned I'm more comfortable with Python. The interviewer noticed I was struggling and then asked a different question.
- How would you convert a decimal number to a different base?
Technical Marketing Engineer
Applied through internal referral. Had a conversation with hiring manager then a technical phone interview. Went onsite for 6 rounds: 4 technical and 2 for cultural fit. Received an offer lower than my current one, so discussed with recruiter and asked for a rework. Recruiter came back with slightly increased options. Hiring manager was helpful but gave a short time to think about the offer. Hiring manager and recruiter seemed out of sync. Overall, the process felt pushy and inconsiderate of my situation, which is a big red flag.
- Can you discuss network protocols and troubleshooting?
Consultant
Got referred by someone who works here already. HR called me to set up the interview and also asked for my resume. I talked to the VP first, then HR. Got the offer 4 hours after that. Started the next day.
- What makes you want to join our company?
- Is a long-term commitment something you are seeking?
