Data Analyst
I had to do an online application, then an assessment, followed by a phone interview. The assessment was way too hard for an associate data analyst. The python code part was a screenshot of actual code they use and was badly written. I passed the assessment and got a FAQ page about the job. It talked about their 2021 goals (it's almost 2023) and said people leave after 1-2 years. It also mentioned one WFH day a week, even though the job was listed as remote. They clearly hadn't updated it. Then I got an interview. It was awful. The interviewer was awkward, laughed inappropriately, and couldn't answer my questions. Standard questions were asked, like "What trait do you feel is most important to be successful within this position and company?". He was unprofessional. Then, a day and a half later, they told me the position was filled. It felt like they had someone already and I was just a formality. Glad I didn't go further. I'd never apply here again because they seem clueless.
- What's your motivation for applying to this role?
- In your opinion, what personal quality is key for succeeding in this role and at this company?
College Coach
Before they even let you ask questions about the job, Beyond 12 has you do a lot. First, you submit your resume, what part of the job excites you most, your data management background, and why Beyond 12. Then, there's a video interview where you can re-do your answers as many times as you need. After that, you get 3 quick pre-work questions (like drafting an email) that are due right after you find out you're moving on to 'group interview day' (which isn't actually a group interview). This day includes a group info session, a standard 30-minute chat, and then a role-play where you act as a coach helping a student with a scenario they give you, followed by a debrief.
- What draws you to college coaching, and how has your previous experience prepared you for it?
- Have you known someone who left college before graduating? What reasons might lead a student to drop out?
- Describe a time you failed to meet a personal goal. What actions did you take, what obstacles did you encounter, what did you learn, and what would you change?
College Coach
So after I applied, first there was this questionnaire thing, you know, where I had to write about college access stuff and why I was interested in the job. If they liked what I wrote, they called me for a phone interview. If that went well, then it was a group interview. The group interview started with the CEO giving a quick intro to the company and then we all introduced ourselves. After that, we got split into groups and went to our one-on-one interviews, a role play activity, and a group project. This whole thing took over a month to get to the group interview stage. I was kinda bummed out 'cause there were like 16 people going for only 2 jobs. I get they want the best person, but man, the odds were not great.
- What drives you?
- What makes you want to work for Beyond12?
- Can you share an experience where...
College Coach
The interview process was long and spanned over a few months. It consisted of 4 rounds total, including: -Submitting your application (basic info, resume, cover letter) -Virtual interview (upload video responses to ~3 pre-recorded questions) -Phone interview (with someone from Beyond 12), and finally -Virtual day-long interview (includes an individual interview, group activity with other candidates, a college coach & student role play call) The process felt professional, thorough, and was a great opportunity to get a better sense of Beyond 12 as an organization as well as the team. That said, overall it is very competitive.
- You are the college coach and you are checking-in with one of your students through a particularly difficult situation. Role play this scenario.
- Tell me about a time where you failed. Please explain why. What were some of the things you learned from the experience and what steps you took (if any) to improve?
- Why are you interested in becoming a College Coach?
