First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bethesda Softworks.
Software Engineer
It was a standard 7 rounds process. Started with a recruiter and hiring manager chat. Then a take-home test, which they talked about during one of the technical interviews. After that, there were several technical and design interviews covering language and database specifics. Each interview had multiple interviewers.
- Can you explain how an HTTP request functions?
Associate Brand Manager
I applied to Bethesda and heard back from a recruiter a few weeks later. They mentioned it would be an audio-only interview, so I was caught off guard when the interviewers had their cameras on. It wasn't a major issue, but it could have made me seem anti-social if they weren't aware of the audio-only instruction. The interviewers were pleasant, though one seemed a bit reserved when I tried to be friendly and conversational. The interview lasted about 30 minutes, and they asked about my background, my interest in Bethesda, and some general questions about the gaming industry. At the end, they said the recruiter would follow up about the next steps. However, I never heard back, and my follow-up emails went unanswered, which was disappointing given my enthusiasm for Bethesda. This experience has made me hesitant to pursue opportunities there, as I interpret the lack of communication as a potential reflection of how they treat internal employees, possibly contributing to their low workplace ratings. Despite this, I'm still looking forward to Starfield and the next Elder Scrolls.
- Can you discuss a video game marketing campaign that you found to be effectively executed, and explain your reasoning?
Product Marketing Manager
The interview process was quite long, as they told me from the start. It included meeting the Senior Product Marketing Manager and the Junior Product Marketing Manager. There was also a take-home case study that required a few hours of work. Finally, I had an interview with the General Directors and the Marketing Director for France. I had a really positive experience, enjoyed meeting everyone, and found the case study very interesting. Everyone on the team was very respectful. The recruitment process takes a while, but this was communicated upfront.
- How would your colleagues describe you?
- What makes you want to work for Bethesda specifically?
- What tools do you currently use in your role?
Artist
First, I had to complete an application along with my resume. Then, a phone interview with the head of the team. After that, an onsite interview. The whole process was quite slow, with long gaps between steps and not many updates. Finally, there were negotiations with HR. They're really looking for super passionate, top-tier developers and are very selective.
- Can you tell me about the most costly mistake you've made?
- What are your thoughts on our current games and projects?
- What aspects of our current games and projects would you enhance?
