First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BeneTrac.
Software Engineer
You are given this massive paper test that's pretty much impossible to finish, asking all sorts of tech questions. It feels more academic and not really tied to the job itself, but they use it to gauge your understanding of basic web tech like ASP, Web Services, ASP.NET, and C#. You can probably find most of these questions online if you search for interview questions on those topics. If they like your answers on the paper test, they'll invite you for another in-person interview where they present you with a super simple program and ask you to figure out the final value of a variable. It's not too tough.
- Can you explain the ASP.NET page life-cycle?
Benefits Systems Specialist
First, there was a panel interview with four Benefits System Specialist Supervisors. One Supervisor read scripted questions while the other three observed. You also had to do a carrier discrepancy report. Passing this moved you to the next stage. Second, an interview with the Department Manager. Third, a two-week wait to hear from the Paychex Recruiter who asked some questions about your interview experience. Fourth, a series of emails from the Paychex Recruiter to complete. Fifth, a drug test. Sixth, another wait for the Paychex Recruiter to contact you with an offer.
- Tell us about how you would feel if you were a baby carrot in a blender.
Benefits Specialist
The recruiter was the first point of contact. If they thought you were a good fit, they'd send you to the hiring manager. Scheduling was done via email. I had to wait about 35 minutes for the interviewer because the receptionist couldn't find her or get in touch. Plan on a skills test after the interview; it's not hard. The interviewer kept mentioning how stressful the job is. It's a very quiet office, and the dress code is casual, like jeans. I think there was also a take-home test involved.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a distressed customer and describe how you managed the interaction?
Benefit Systems Specialist
The hiring process has changed. They now use temps so they can quickly let go of those who aren't performing. It seems they're hiring more men because women often need to stay home with sick children. Previously, you'd first talk with supervisors who'd ask you questions. Then, you'd meet with the client services manager. Besides hiring temps, I'm not sure about the current steps.
