First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Benedictine College.
Assistant Professor
The interview process was quite lengthy, involving meetings with six different individuals and the delivery of two presentations. Ultimately, an offer was not extended, reportedly because the university aimed to significantly undervalue the candidate's compensation, as learned from an insider. This outcome might have been for the best.
- After the President and Provost presented the college's selling points, they asked for your thoughts on integrating into the institution.
Director of Residence Life
It started with a phone interview, about 30 minutes long. They asked me about my leadership style, my programming experience, and student conduct theory. Then, I was invited to campus for a full day of interviews. This included meeting with the President, both Vice Presidents for Student Life, the Director of Residence Life, a panel of five other RDs, and some individual meetings with RDs. I also had lunch with a group of student RAs. It was a very long day.
- How would you introduce yourself to your RA's at your first meeting?
- Describe your style of leadership.
Resident Director
First, there was a phone interview with a hiring committee, which included the Director of Residence Life and some other Resident Directors. Then, we had an all-day onsite campus interview. This involved meeting with the Director of Residence Life, the VP of Students, other Resident Directors, the President of the College, some RAs or student workers, and the Campus Chaplain.
- What's your approach to dealing with a student who has body odor issues?
Resident Assistant
They asked a bunch of questions about what I can bring to Residence life and my strengths and weaknesses. Team dynamics are super important to them, so they really want to see someone who's adaptable and passionate about their mission. They're looking for someone who is well-rounded and cares about community.
- Can you share an instance where you faced a challenging situation and describe your actions?
