First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Beloit College.
Manager
So after sending in my cover letter and resume, first there was this zoom interview with the hiring committee and some students. If I passed that, then I had to come in and do a facility tour with the person who was leaving the job, and also meet and interview with more people from the hiring committee and other staff and students.
- Can you tell me about a time you overcame adversity?
Security Guard
You'll be interviewed by a panel including the Director of Security, Operations Manager, and HR. They'll immediately want to know how you'd handle situations where race might be an issue, to ensure they aren't hiring someone racist. They'll also describe the extensive walking you'll do during your shift, covering stairs and basements. Be aware that the school is in financial trouble, and the starting wage is $14.35 with no raises for at least three years, so know what you're getting into!
- What would you do if someone accused you of racism while you were working?
Resident Assistant
So the interview process included two interviews where I met with two current RAs at a time, then I had a one-on-one with the Director of Reslife, and finally, there was a group activity with other people applying for the RA position. This group part can sometimes involve some role-playing, or it might be more about discussing student culture and how we handle group situations.
- What motivates you to pursue the Resident Assistant role?
- Can you explain your strategies for resolving conflicts?
- How would you approach a conflict situation?
IT Student Worker
I got an application from the IT office, filled it out, and turned it in. Then the IT manager contacted me and we scheduled an interview for the next week. In the interview, three people from the department asked me general questions about my personality, why I wanted to join IT, and my background. The interview was about half an hour long, and they told me I was hired right after and could start working immediately.
- What is your background regarding IT work?
