Writer
The interview experience was great! Expect common questions, so prep well to be ready for anything. The interviewers are nice.
- Tell me about a difficult situation you encountered in a past job and how you dealt with it.
- What made you want to apply for this role, and what contributions do you think you can make to our team?
- How do you manage your workload when you have several deadlines, and can you give an example of this?
Accountant
It was an easy and open process, with a lot of curiosity about me as a person. It felt like a two-way conversation. We even walked around the facility. They were open to follow-up questions. I got to talk with other staff members. They provided a lot of company information. Nothing else of note to comment on.
- Can you describe your professional background and experience in comparable positions?
Software Engineer
The interview started with a phone call and then an in-person interview. During the phone call, I was asked to study REST APIs, which was easy. The interview with the VP of Engineering was great, focusing on algorithmic thinking for problems like elevator optimization, and discussing various design patterns and development strategies. However, the part with the engineering manager was problematic. As a senior software engineer, I was tasked with writing a complete API with multiple endpoints in PHP from scratch. The main issue was the strict requirement to finish all lines of code, regardless of how thoroughly I approached the process or applied defensive programming and design patterns. Failing to complete all the code meant immediate rejection. I attempted to discuss various scenarios for the API, but it was dismissed. This felt like a significant waste of time. Additionally, the manager didn't seem engaged during their part of the interview, making that portion unsuccessful. The manager's feedback was essentially that I 'had to finish all the endpoints and have them working without taking care of how good or bad they are designed.' This raises concerns about whether this is the type of manager you'd want, one who expects work to be done without discussion or analysis.
- Questions about design patterns and algorithm optimization from the VP of Engineering
- Write a full PHP API from scratch with approximately 4 endpoints, which is expected to take 1 hour to complete.
