This was hands-down one of the messiest and most unprofessional interview experiences I’ve had. The final interview included eight people on the call, with no clear plan or structure. No one seemed to know who was leading, who was asking what, or how to guide the conversation. Everyone talked over each other, making it chaotic and difficult to engage meaningfully. The CEO showed up over 10 minutes late and immediately hijacked the discussion. From there, it was rapid-fire questions, constant interruptions, and no room to finish a thought. It felt more like a disorganized panel trying to prove a point than a real conversation about the role. By the end of the call, it was clear there was a serious lack of professionalism and internal alignment. I reached out after the interview to inform them I wasn’t interested in joining their team. If you’re looking for a collaborative, thoughtful hiring process, I’d recommend approaching Behindthechair.com with caution.

Had a great initial interview and was told I was a strong candidate. A week later, I completed the required design challenge (that took me at least 8 hours of free work) and received no response. I followed up again to ensure the files were received and got no response. I never received a rejection email. It would have been nice to at least receive a formal rejection after the time invested.

I had three interviews in total. First up was a phone interview with the Editorial Director and HR (though there's no HR right now). Then, I met with the whole Editorial Team, and also two Senior Team Members from Advertising. The final interview was with the Editorial Director, Mary (who owns the company), and the Marketing Director.

It took me two months to hear back after applying. I got an email to set up a FaceTime interview about a month later, and it was about 30 minutes long. The following week, I had an in-person interview that also lasted about 30 minutes with a few people. After that, I had to create some sample social media posts. I sent them in and followed up a week later because I hadn't heard anything. Another week went by and they emailed me to say they hired someone else.
