First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Baylor Genetics.
Sales Operations Specialist
I was completely ghosted, which was super unprofessional and disappointing. I went through 5 interview rounds, they checked my references, and I got a verbal offer. They said the official paperwork would come soon. I asked the recruiter about increasing the base salary, and they said they'd check with the hiring manager. After that, total radio silence. I followed up with both the recruiter and hiring manager, but never heard back. It's a shame because I really invested time in this. Honestly, it's not surprising the company has such bad reviews.
- Can you walk us through your background and experience, highlighting how it connects to this position?
Clinical Genomic Scientist
It was a three-step interview process, starting with a screening, then a technical interview with the hiring manager and team lead, and finally an interview with the director about career development. The whole thing was pretty straightforward with not too much waiting time.
- How would you interpret a variant found in patients?
Molecular Genetic Technologist
I applied for the job on the company's career site. I emailed back and forth with an HR person from Baylor-Miraca and we set up a time for me to come in for an interview. I talked to six people one after another, and the whole thing took about 2.5 hours. It was kind of annoying because one person seemed to think I wouldn't stick around for long since the job is pretty routine. They wouldn't accept my point that I'm fine with routine work because I've done it a lot before. I got the impression they thought I wouldn't be a good personality fit, even though I felt my experience and education made me qualified for the job duties. They said they'd let me know what happened, but I never heard back.
- Tell me about your background and schooling. How long do you see yourself working here?
- Are you okay with a job that mainly involves routine tasks?
- Looking back at previous jobs, is there anything you would change?
Director of Marketing
Applied and got an email asking for salary expectations. After giving them, I completed the BG Values Survey, which felt more like it was for existing employees. Then, I had to sign an NDA. Following that was a 15-minute screening interview where they told me the role had changed from Director to Associate Director. The job description and experience requirements (15 years) remained the same, but the salary was cut by $15,000. This whole thing took about 6 weeks and felt like a bait and switch, so I passed.
- Would you be okay with a salary that's $15,000 less than what we initially indicated was in our range?
