The interview started off very unfriendly and arrogant, right from the first email. They chose a time that best fit their schedule, which is a wording I haven't encountered before; usually, companies ask for suggested times or offer multiple options. The recruiter said, 'Since you come from a scientific background, you should know that in consulting, we don't just mix substance A and B and see what happens.' Wow, thanks. They also mentioned, 'We never have exact figures for our estimates; we always have to work with assumptions.' I guess that explains a lot if in-house consulting only operates on assumptions. Based on my experience, I wouldn't apply for this position again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

Case Behavioral
The initial stage was a phone case study. The interviewer started by reviewing my resume, and then I did the same. We then moved on to an M&A case study. What was strange was that there was no specific data for the companies involved. I asked for information like market shares, internal structures, and financial reports, but they said no such data was available and I should use a more general approach. At the end, I was asked if I had questions, and when I asked for feedback, they said they couldn't provide any at that time. They mentioned they'd contact me the following week regardless of the outcome, but I never heard back. A major issue for me was the lack of structure in the interview and how they were late but rushed to finish on time.

The interview was a whole morning assessment day. It consisted of a behavioural interview, a role play exercise where I had to act as an employee in a difficult conversation, and a business case. The behavioural interview was pretty standard HR stuff, asking about my motivations and past experiences. The case interview was a McKinsey-style, interviewer-led one.
