First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Barts Health NHS Trust.
Registered Nurse
So first up was a maths test which I had to do. Then after that, there was an interview stage. They asked me some scenario questions and also some general questions like how your role changes from a student nurse to a registered nurse. It was good to know about the trust values.
- Can you describe a situation where a patient complained and how you handled it?
- What differences do you anticipate in your role as you transition from a student nurse to a registered nurse?
- Are you familiar with the trust's values?
Foundation Pharmacist
It was an online interview with 3 panel members. They sent over 2 resources about 15 minutes before the interview started for the clinical and prioritisation questions, although I only got mine 10 minutes before.
- Tell me about a time you worked in a team.
- Can you give an instance of when you faced a stressful situation?
- How would you approach a drug chart review?
Program Lead
It was a quick process. I had to do a presentation about a governance topic. They also asked typical questions about why I wanted the job and what my career goals are. They presented a scenario and asked how I would handle it. The interviewers followed up with more questions to really dig into my understanding of public healthcare governance. They gave me feedback quickly after.
- How do you define non-conformance in the context of governance?
- What drives your interest in this particular position?
- What are your career aspirations moving forward?
Training Manager
The interview process was very unprofessional. I passed the first stage and was invited to a second stage assessment. However, this was cancelled because they couldn't get enough people for a quorum. Then, I found out they re-advertised the role internally, which was weird. Three weeks later, the hiring manager called to say that since two other candidates couldn't make the second stage, they gave the job to an internal candidate. It was totally unprofessional and lacked communication and transparency. If they wanted to give it to an internal candidate, why advertise externally? The different reasons given contradicted each other. It would have saved everyone time if they had just said no from the start instead of giving silly excuses, as preparing for interviews is time-consuming. The hiring manager was very casual about it, like she was just going through the motions without real reasons. How can you penalize candidates because others are unavailable? It's ridiculous. The hiring manager clearly needs more HR and recruitment experience; she seemed incompetent. My advice to other candidates is to watch out for changing requirements and unprofessionalism when interviewing with this team.
- Can you discuss your relevant skills and prior experience?
- What is your experience with the learning and development cycle?
