First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Barrick Mining.
Investigation Officer
A select group of candidates made it through. The interviews started quite late, much later than scheduled. The fairness of the process was questionable, as some candidates received noticeably simpler questions. There was also a perception of bias towards male applicants for this position.
- Do you have knowledge of anti-money laundering regulations?
Mining Engineer
Connected with a recruiter at the university career fair and submitted my profile. Then I had a Webex video interview with two engineers. They asked me questions about how I would approach certain situations and used their DNA-Core Values to decide on next steps. Now they're scheduling an on-site interview and a community tour.
- Describe a situation where you halted unsafe work, detailing the outcome and your key takeaways.
Geologist
The whole thing took like three months, from the first call from HR to training. After the phone interview, I had a full day on-site interview at the mine. It included a tour and meeting potential coworkers. After the offer, there was a background check, medical exam, and drug test. They even put me up in an apartment while I transitioned and got my family moved. The whole experience was way better than I expected and set me up for success.
- Can you describe your psychological makeup?
- How would you describe your personality?
- What's your approach to work?
Mine Planning Engineer
About two weeks after I applied online, I had a 45-minute phone interview with HR and the hiring manager. Another week or two passed, background checks were completed, and I got a conditional offer. After a drug and alcohol test as part of the medical screening, I was given a start date. I signed and emailed back the offer letter, and then started on site six weeks after the initial interview.
- Can you introduce yourself and discuss your background and experience? Also, explain why you believe you're a suitable candidate for this position.
- Why do you think you're the best fit for this job?
- Describe a scenario where an employee under your supervision is struggling to complete a time-sensitive task before its deadline and explain how you would handle it.
