Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Barneys.
Buyer
It was a quick process where we talked about me and my resume. I was asked about important college courses and any past work or internship experience I had that was relevant to this area. They also asked about my Excel skills, since that's needed for this internship. Basically, the interview was all about me and what I could contribute.
- Can you explain your interest in Barneys?
Assistant Buyer
I got referred by someone who works there, so I applied online. HR contacted me for a quick phone chat. Then I went in to meet with HR and the Buyer I'd be working under. After that, HR called me back to interview with the DMM, which was shorter, around 30 mins. The final meeting was with the EVP, also about 30 mins. HR followed up the next day to check my references, and by the end of the week, they offered me the job.
- Can you talk about the Barneys aesthetic and explain why you connect with the company?
Assistant Buyer
The interview process was slow and steady, with many different levels. Some parts were very laid back, while others were quite intense. They definitely play hardball. They went on a trip, which messed up the timing, and then I got the offer to start when they got back.
