First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Barnes Dennig.
Audit Intern
The whole process was pretty straightforward. First, I had a phone screening to confirm my availability and basic qualifications for the role. Then, I had an interview with two people from the team I'd be working with, which felt more like a casual chat than a formal interview. After that, I followed up with emails every month. Each time, I was told they'd let me know soon and it always sounded positive, like they were leaning towards hiring me. After five months of stringing me along and making me believe I didn't need to search for another summer job, they abruptly rejected me and gave a false reason. They claimed there was no room for interns this summer, but then a friend of mine announced her offer the very next day.
- What are your campus activities?
- Which classes and professors have you had?
Staff Accountant
I tried reaching out three times after the initial interview - two emails and a phone call - but got no response at all. It was really frustrating because the interviewer said I'd hear back by the middle of the next week. I sent a thank you email and everything, but still nothing. Honestly, I'd rather be told I didn't get the job than be ghosted. I stopped trying after a month of no replies following the interview.
- It didn’t feel much like an interview.
Audit Manager
I went onsite for a Manager role interview. I felt like the interview with the Senior Partner and HR rep went well. However, I never heard back from the company after multiple follow-ups. It seems they ghosted me and didn't provide any closing communication. While I'm okay with not getting the job, it's really disappointing that they didn't even bother to let me know their decision. I think the company should at least update their process to thank people for their time and tell them where they stand.
- Can you describe your technical expertise, especially regarding new accounting guidance?
- How familiar are you with emerging accounting standards, such as Revenue Recognition and Lease Accounting?
Intern
It was a multi-part interview that was somewhat short and quick. But it was not really any stress. The people were wonderful and asked great questions during the interview.
- Could you describe the team environments you've experienced?
