First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Barchester Healthcare.
Deputy Manager
Got in touch with recruitment and it was all good. Then I went for the interview. Turns out, a text came saying one of the jobs I applied for (I applied for two roles) was already filled internally. I had already taken a day off for this. I never heard back about the other role, even after I tried to get some feedback. It was pretty disappointing, especially from such a big company.
- Can you share your past experience and explain your interest in this position?
General Manager
I had a few interviews for the General Manager role. First, a recruiter call, then a phone screen. After that, I had an onsite interview. They asked me about Healthcare assistance, about Barchester homes, and about dignity and safeguarding. I was asked to talk about myself and the reasons why I left my previous job. They also asked situation questions and how I deal with aggressive behavior.
- Tell me about your approach to person-centered assistance.
Implementation Coordinator
I had an initial call and was told I would be moved to the next stage, but they needed to move very quickly and it would have to be this week. As I didn't get any feedback, I chased a number of times but was told the managers weren't responding, after more emails I decided to drop out of the process as they had clearly over-promised and it really wasn't a priority. Obviously, I wouldn't tell people not to apply but personally I can't recommend them.
- Can you share your experience and background?
HR Business Partner
The interview process kicked off positively with a helpful and communicative recruiter who shared a lot of info about the role and company. The interview itself was good, lasting over an hour and covering several competency-based questions. However, I was told I'd hear back by Friday, but that Friday passed with no word. It's now been over three weeks, and I've been completely ghosted by Barchester. It's shocking candidate experience, especially for a large company with a talent acquisition team; they should have better processes than to ignore candidates who invested time and effort in applying and interviewing.
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult situation.
