It was an uninspiring and long interview process. Red flags were apparent from initial research (COO/CEO founder marriage, no marketing dept, unclear product vision, bad employee reviews), and this vibe was confirmed after 4 rounds. Didn't get an offer, but not too disappointed due to slightly above-average compensation in a tough market. The recruitment team was great, communicative, and responsive. Initial screening interviews felt promising. Overall, it's a startup with typical challenges; might suit some people.

I interviewed at Bankjoy and it was a bad experience. The interview with the People and Culture team was unstructured and uncomfortable. For a company that cares about DEI, I expected better. The questions felt like they were trying to confirm biases instead of understanding my skills. They also cut my time to ask questions very short, which felt dismissive. It made me question their values. I hope they improve their process for future candidates.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

After five meetings and an assignment, the last interview was with a co-founder. This co-founder postponed twice and showed up late to the final meeting, completely unprepared and unaware of previous discussions. They were disengaged, asked questions without listening to answers, and seemed to be talking to themselves. Their description of the role and team differed significantly from others I spoke with. Instead of discussing the job or my qualifications, they shared personal anecdotes about co-founders. I was initially told I was overqualified and that they were preparing to offer me a more senior role, with an offer seeming imminent. However, a week later, they stated they are not hiring for that senior role this year, making the previous indication seem like speculation.

Behavioral Technical

I had a good experience with the interview process. The recruiter did a screener, then I interviewed with the VP of product, the COO, an Engineer, and the implementation manager. Everyone I talked to was smart and honest. It felt like they were really trying to assess candidates, which makes sense given their size.
