& Process

It was a two-round interview process. First was with an RM, and the second with the Head of Department. Mostly behavioral questions about fit and past experiences, with some technicals. They also asked about how I could contribute to the corp bank business and my understanding of loan processes.

I found out about this internship through my university's career office, which is how they mostly recruit interns, particularly graduate/Masters and/or Ivy League students. My resume was passed to a department VP who was looking for an intern with quantitative and programming skills. I was contacted by email, and we scheduled an interview at the firm's office. I had three interviews with VPs and team members, testing my knowledge of finance (especially derivatives as they related to the job), programming, and math. There was a second round with HR to assess my cultural fit. As it's a Japanese bank, they really emphasize teamwork and loyalty. Their business is client-focused and relationship-driven, with a conservative approach. The whole process took about a month, and I got an offer a week after the second round.

After I submitted my entry sheet, I was invited to a group discussion and presentation. That was followed by a casual group interview with one of their younger staff members. I thought I blew the presentation because I wasn't as vocal as some others, but they weren't just looking for loud people. Actually, a lot of the really outspoken people didn't get in. They are looking for team players.
